Creative Arts

Our Creative Arts Program consists of two strands – Visual Arts and Performing Arts. Sequential programs aligned to the Victorian Curriculum are experienced by our students in purposely built environments that support their learning. Attention to our Indigenous Peoples culture in the Creative Arts area influences many of the learning intentions in both of these programs.

Visual Arts

Students love the spacious art room and the variety of learning opportunities to develop their imaginative and artistic skills. We are fortunate to have our own kiln for firing the fabulous clay objects which the students produce. Painting, constructing, drawing, weaving, sewing, and collage are just a few of the range of artistic design areas which the students experience in the Visual Arts lessons. Display of the students’ individual artistic work appears around the school environment. Whole school art pieces are also displayed both inside and outside demonstrating our commitment to our school as a community who learns and creates together.

Performing Arts

This is a most loved subject enjoyed by all of our students. Music, Dance, and Drama are covered over the life of a student’s schooling. These programs are delivered in a space designed for music lessons, theatre games, dance, performances, and our glockenspiel lab. In the glockenspiel lab, students learn to read music and are encouraged to compose their own melody and two-part pieces of music. Dramatic play includes – dress-ups, masks, puppets and scenario creation. Senior students write scripts, direct their own group plays and develop improvised performances. The experiences during dance, drama and music classes encourage self-confidence in front of an audience of their peers, leading to larger public performances.

Whole School Production

Healesville Primary School produces a biennial whole school production which is written, produced, and directed by its many talented staff members. The students are coached and rehearsed to a high standard which results in an engaging production for the audience. Parents and friends of the school work with staff on costuming, set making, and backstage crew. Our most recent performance, ‘The Choice,’ was a sensation, with members of the wider community also attending and giving very positive feedback on the standard of the student performances and the quality of the show. This was held at the Memo Hall in Main St Healesville

Assemblies

A variety of class performances are also produced for Assemblies by the class teachers and their students. Our students also have many opportunities to perform in the choir and instrumental groups directed by our visiting teachers and choirmaster. Our choir visits local nursing homes to enhance the lives of the residents and give performance opportunities to the students, developing their confidence and self-esteem.

Performing Arts Incursions

Healesville Primary School engages the highest quality incursion activities which support and strengthen our students’ engagement to the curriculum.
